Frederick A. Bonney; April 20, 2012

Frederick A. Bonney, 91, former Idaho resident, died on April 20 with his wife and grandchildren at his bedside in Madison.

Fred was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Coventry, Conn. Fred was a hard worker and sacrificed getting an education so that he could support his family. He joined the Navy and served during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Coventry and started working as a carpenter for his uncle. He was a union carpenter for over 50 years.

His interests included church, family, wood working, trains and fishing. He devoted much time to his wife and church and loved to read his Bible daily. He loved to work with his hands. He made many beautiful pieces of furniture for family, helped build friends’ homes and spent 10 years volunteering in the Church of Christ Sojourners program. Everywhere Fred went he brought laughter and kindness. He loved to tease people and enjoyed anyone with a sense of humor.

Fred is survived by his wife, Opal Bonney; children, Richard Bonney, Mary Bonney and Don Bonney; stepchildren, Edna Worf and Bill Roberts; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many grandchildren adopted through his love at Valley View Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at Madison Church of Christ on Hughes Road.
