Target Automotive back in business

A repair shop that operated many years in Madison, Target Automotive, has reopened at its facility on Gin Oaks Court.

Target Automotive has reopened on Gin Oaks Court.

Bonnie Rawlinson and Enrique Gomez own the business. Christian Waugh works as shop manager at Target.

Rawlinson’s husband Terry passed away in December 2007. She decided to reopen Target Automotive now because “we’re still getting calls from old customers and neighbors wanting to get their cars serviced. I decided to reopen to give them the same quality of service that they have gotten before.”

In the 1990s, Terry Rawlinson opened a smaller garage on Hughes Road and worked in that location for 16 years. Then, the Rawlinsons bought the land on Gin Oak Courts for a new shop.

Target can make transmission repairs. “We also do engine work. We can replace an engine or rebuild it,” Waugh said. They complete all types of work on brakes, diesel engines and struts — even spring compressors for heavier trucks.

“We’ll do an oil change for $10, if you bring the oil and filter,” Waugh said. For the best scheduling, call ahead. “We may be slammed one day but not the next.” They also offer full-service oil changes.

“We can get anything that Cooper Tire makes. That’s a big brand for us,” Waugh said. “We also carry other lines, like Hornsby.” Waugh can order most tires within an hour, or at least next day. They also sell used tires.

Few local garages do electrical repairs, but Waugh can handle the work at Target. “We can do about anything. I’ve had to tear down a car before and trace it down to one burned wire,” he said. They also recharge air conditioning systems and do tune-ups.

“We give customers the best quality of service we can,” Rawlinson said. “We stand by our work and don’t have come-backs. If you do come back, we’ll get it straight.”

Target’s hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Waugh will meet a customer earlier and even give the customer a ride to work.
