Salvation Army in need of donations

The Salvation Army is in need of specific items to help complete their family food boxes and to give in their community kitchen.

With the summer heat and crowds, they are asking for certain contributions from community members in order to assist those in need. They have an abundance of canned corn and green beans, so those items are not a priority.

For their family food boxes, they are in need of breakfast items such as cereal, oatmeal, Pop-Tarts, pancake/muffin mixes, cream of wheat, grits, breakfast bars and evaporated or powdered milk.

They need canned meats such as tuna, chicken or Vienna sausages, beef stew or hearty soups, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruits and canned chili. Instant potatoes, dried beans, rice, crackers, juices, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup are also needed.

For the community kitchen, they are in need of the above breakfast items. They also need #10, cafeteria size cans, and foods that come in ready to eat, pop-top cans, for the homeless.

Items can be delivered to the Salvation Army Office at 2114 Oakwood Avenue between 8:30 a.m. to noon or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
