Political forum hosts candidates

Don Palmer and Troy Trulock discussed their viewpoints during the forum at Bob Jones High School.

The Madison City Council of PTA hosted a political forum of candidates running for municipal offices on Monday, Aug. 20.

The forum was held at Bob Jones High School at 6 p.m. A three-person panel questioned the candidates and WHNT News 19’s Venton Bandin moderated.

Candidates for City Council in District 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 introduced themselves and answered questions, and then the mayoral candidates followed suit.

Councilman Tommy Overcash of District 5 is running unopposed and was not part of the forum.

One of the questions asked to the mayoral candidates Don Palmer and Troy Trulock was how residents should grade the performance of the person selected as mayor.

Trulock said he could be graded on his “Madison Action Plan” designed to better the economy, roads and infrastructure, schools, relationships and volunteerism.

Palmer said his performance could be judged on his “communication with the citizens.” Palmer said, “They are the boss.”

Palmer said he would focus on raising and increasing revenues to help fund areas including schools and infrastructure.

The Madison City Council of PTA is a nonprofit organization that coordinates and assists PTAs in Madison City Schools.
