Madison UMC youth to collect for UNICEF

Children from Madison United Methodist Church, 127 Church St. will be trick-or-treating for UNICEF on Oct. 28.

UNICEF, or United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, began in World War II’s aftermath as a tiny operation supplying starving children in Europe with food and nutritional supplements, church spokesperson Carla Feehan said.

“UNICEF has saved more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization,” she said. “When Hurricane Katrina left hundreds of thousands of children along the Gulf Coast without homes and schools, UNICEF responded by sending school-in-a-box and recreation kits to the region.”

Madison UMC children will go door to door in neighborhoods throughout Madison on Oct. 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. Children will wear name tags with the church’s name and carry UNICEF containers for donations.
