Madison students blast competitors in Rocket City Jr. Math Mania

Scores of Madison students participated and placed in Rocket City Jr. Math Mania on Nov. 3.

Grissom High School Math Team hosted the tourney at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

In individual rankings for fourth grade, Isaac Wang from Columbia Elementary School earned first place. Adhavan Subramaniyam from Mill Creek Elementary School was third-place winner. West Madison Elementary School student Sujay V Jakka won fifth place.

Other individual winners were Maanasi Limaye, Rainbow Elementary School, sixth; Alex Edwards, Rainbow, seventh; Chris Woodard, Columbia, ninth; Amulya Hota, Columbia, 11th; Rishikesh Bethina, Mill Creek, 12th; Adam Mercier, Rainbow, 14th; and Emma Tolbert, Rainbow, 15th. These students are fourth-graders except for Limaye in third grade.

The fourth-grade team from Columbia earned first place; team members are Amulya Hota, Isaac Wang, Devika Shanker and Sam Uchitel. Taking third place was Rainbow’s team with Maddy Dobbs, Sydney Mockaitis, Maanasi Limaye and Emma Tolbert.

In fifth-grade individual awards, West Madison students Brandon Wang earned second place and Jean-Pierre le Roux took 11th place. Columbia students Anshul Moondra and Lawrence Zhang won fourth and sixth places, respectively. From Rainbow, Joy Duan placed seventh; Michael Guthrie, eighth; and Victoria Lee, tenth.

Lawrence Zhang, Melodie Zhu, Shreyas Pant and Sumedha Bobba in Columbia’s fifth-grade team captured second place. West Madison followed in third place with Brandon Wang, Joshua Payne, Juanita Monterio-Pai and Aneesha Ankam. Another Columbia team with Anshul Moondra, Alice Zhang, Rohan Sethi and Zhuo Chen placed fifth.

Sixth-graders also excelled in individual competition. Rainbow students Tony Tian took second place; Corey Tolbert, third; and Aditi Limaye, fifth. Winners from West Madison were Joshua Byers and Justin Byers, at fourth and sixth places, respectively, and David Li at 11th. From Heritage Elementary School, Cheng Zhou placed ninth and Rishi Jangale at 15th, while Daniel Zhang from Columbia placed 13th.

Sixth-grade teams from Madison City Schools also soared in Rocket City Jr. Math Mania. First-place honors went to the Rainbow team staffed by Aditi Limaye, Corey Colbert and Tony Tian. Close behind, Cheng Zhou, Rishi Jangale, Nathan Assaf and Sarah Han from Heritage finished in third place. From West Madison, Joshua Byers and Justin Byers earned fourth place.
