MADISON – Students in visual arts, vocal and instrumental music, drama and broadcasting will be in the spotlight through Friday at James Clemens High School.

James Clemens Fine Arts Department is presenting its premiere Arts Fest through May 10. “We have seven days of events planned to not only showcase the wonderful talents of our students but to also celebrate and advocate the integral role arts education has in developing passionately intelligent human beings,” band director Keith Anderson said.

All events are free and will be held in the auditorium. “The James Clemens fine arts faculty hopes that you will make plans to join us for these events,” Anderson said.

The festivities started on May 2 with a choral concert with the combined concert voices of the James Clemens and Liberty Middle School choirs, conducted by Stuart Tankesley. The performances continued on May 3 and May 6 with 10-minute plays and films, produced by the theatre and broadcasting students.

Amy Patel is drama instructor and Daniel Whitt teaches broadcast journalism and mentors JETS Press.

Dr. Iain Moyer from the University of North Alabama will be featured as guest soloist during the Percussion Ensemble Concert on May 7 at 7 p.m. The Zen Club Festival is scheduled for May 8 at 7 p.m. and will be directed by club members and student broadcasters.

Liz Vaughn’s and Joel Loudon’s art students will exhibit their designs, painting and drawings.

On May 9 at 6:30 p.m., the James Clemens Symphonic Band will be in concert, under the direction of Keith Anderson. Closing night of the James Clemens Arts Fest on May 10 at 7 p.m. will involve all fine arts students in combined performances by band, choir, drama, art and broadcasting departments.
