CW-3 USA Retired Joseph Robert Curry September 23, 1925 – February 5, 2014

CW-3 USA Retired Joseph Robert Curry, 88, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday, February 5th. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he served in the US Navy Armed Guard during WWII as a Gunner on Liberty Ships (1942-1945). Joe joined the PA National Guard in September 1950, hoping to serve in Korea, but was stationed in Germany with Occupation Forces. Following this tour of duty, he attended Explosive Ordnance School, and served as an EOD Tech for many years, until he took an Appointment as a Warrant Officer in Ordnance Corps/Ammunition in 1966. Joe served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star with Valor 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service, 2 Army Commendation Medals, along with other medals. Joe retired from military service in 1975, earned a BS in Education from Athens State University and worked for the US Army as a Civil Servant until retiring in 1988. He was an avid golfer, volunteered with the Huntsville Police Department (a job her really enjoyed), and was a supportive father. He was on the First Honor Flight to Washington, DC for the WWII Memorial.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Evelyn ‘Lynn’; sons, Jaime (Monique) of Huntsville and Paul (Kathi) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Sandee (Wyatt Doyle) of Monrovia, CA and 7 grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral service were held Saturday, February 8th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Burial was in Madison City Cemetery. (www.laughlinservice.com)
The family wishes to express their utmost appreciation to the staff at the ‘Tut’ Fann State Veterans Home, where he was so respectfully cared for, for the past eleven months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, USO, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
