Pets and artists merge for third annual Art 4 Paws Festival

MADISON – Madison Arts Council (MAC) will welcome springtime with the third annual Art 4 Paws Festival on April 5.
Historic downtown Madison will be the venue for this free event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Arts 4 Paws merges two great American pastimes — art and pets,” MAC President Shrail Heinrich said. “With a range of activities, this outdoor event offers something for everyone in the family, including Fido.”
On the Village Green along Front Street, more than 40 vendors will offer fine art and crafts, including jewelry, paintings, ceramics, garden art and custom pet-themed wares. “We’re excited that many 2013 vendors are returning, plus new faces from as far away as Georgia”, festival chairman Beth Ridgeway said.
Pets and owners can follow the red carpet to an official photo booth. A beginners’ agility course will allow pups to explore tunnels and jumps.
“If you’re looking to add a new pet to your household, Art 4 Paws provides the perfect opportunity to meet eligible canines and felines,” Heinrich said. “More than 10 animal rescue groups will be onsite with furry friends looking to adopt a new family, too.”
New features include an “Ask the Vet” station. Individuals considering pet adoption can solve questions about annual veterinary care.
An amateur dog show “will welcome well-behaved canines and their owners to participate,” show chairman Brenda Parker said. Onsite registration is $5 and limited to first 70 dogs that apply.
Judging for the dog show will start at 2 p.m. with categories like “Best Dressed” and “Best Trick.” Proud canine winners in each of six categories will receive ribbons and plaques.
Art 4 Paws also will feature food vendors and pet information booths. Bob Jones Drumline will perform in the children’s area and allow kids to strike a beat.
Art 4 Paws is a rain-or-shine event. Parking will be available along Main and Church streets.
