MADISON – Alexandra ‘Sasha’ Dison would have turned 10 years old this month. The “Taking Care of Paws – Sasha’s Way” group will celebrate Sasha’s life using the precedent she set.

Sasha’s special birthday celebration will be held at Kid’s Kingdom in Dublin Park on Aug. 17. “To remember Sasha and her mission to provide veterinary care for homeless pets, her special birthday party will run from 3 to 5 p.m.,” spokesperson Elizabeth Cuneo said.

In May 2011, Sasha was diagnosed with Stage 4 rhabdomayosarcoma, a cancer that develops in the body’s connective tissue. Doctors at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham granted Sasha’s wish to come home, where she passed away on April 27. Her parents are Jonathan and Larissa Dison.

For her last birthdays, Sasha started a tradition of declining gifts for herself and encouraging friends to bring cat and dog food to distribute to needy animals. A collection point will be set up at Kid’s Kingdom for guests to drop off their birthday ‘gifts’ for the animals, Cuneo said.

Sasha’s celebration will include a scavenger hunt for children and their dogs, face painting and balloon animals provided by the Shriner’s Buffoons.

Fincher’s Franks will provide hot dogs and sausages. “Ice cream treats will be available for purchase for humans and their four-legged friends by Brain Freeze Mobile Icecream,” Cuneo said.

At the party’s finale, guest will enjoy birthday cake and release thousands of bubbles to honor Sasha and her dream.
