MADISON – A walking tour for the SPACES Sculpture Trail on Madison’s Main Street will be held on Feb. 7.

SPACES is a collaborative project among The Arts Council (TAC) in Huntsville, Alabama A&M University, Huntsville Museum of Art, Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment Center, University of Alabama in Huntsville, City of Madison and Madison Arts Council (MAC).

TAC has scheduled SPACES walking tours for all sculpture sites across Madison County. This display of public art now includes 37 sculptures.

The Madison tour will start at 10 a.m. on Feb. 7. Individuals should meet in front of Whistle Stop Sweet Shop at 104 Main St.

Starting at the east end of Main Street, “A Carpenter’s Dream” depicts a bigger-than-life hammer and “pays homage to the working class laborer while at the same time bringing up issues of mass production,” according to its creating artist Kevin Vanek.

Near Main Street Cafe, “Pagoda” by Suzy Hendrix has recycled glass from her studio for some of its multi-colored facets. “Three Wise and the Weary III” by Austin Collins is representative of visitors to festivals in Madison’s downtown historic district, former MAC President Shrail Heinrich said.

On Main Street’s west end, “Contemporary Couple” by Brad Morton is a relationship study, perhaps parent/child, husband/wife or mutual friends.

Other SPACES sculptures in Madison are “Winter” by Hanna Jubran at City Hall with stainless steel and bronze symbolizing the season and three “Whisper Bench” sculptures and “Oak Horizon Gate IV” by Jim Gallucci at Dublin Park.

In October 2014, Madison gained its first permanent sculpture when Carl Billingsley donated “Prism Arc VII” to Madison Elementary School.

Other SPACES tours are scheduled for downtown Huntsville and Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment on Feb. 14 at 10 a.m., with walkers meeting on the south side at Papou’s Greek Restaurant, and Alabama A&M on Feb. 21 at 10 a.m., starting at the Morrison Building.
