Local instrumentalists earn chairs in All-State Band

MADISON COUNTY – Instrumental musicians in middle and high school auditioned for All-State Band on Jan. 30.

Required material at auditions included 12 major scales and arpeggios, chromatic scale and two prepared pieces. Judges also considered tone quality and sight-reading.

All-State Bands will convene on April 16-18 in Mobile Convention Center.

Middle School All-State Band:

* Woodwinds — Flute: Kathryn V., second chair, St. John the Baptist Catholic School. Oboe: Robert B., first, Liberty Middle School. Bassoon: Katie E., first, Monrovia Middle School. Clarinet: Madison E., first, Westminster Christian Academy; Sophia F, second, Liberty; Jeremy E, third, Monrovia; and Emma D., fourth, Liberty. Contra Bass Clarinet: Nick M., first, Monrovia. Alto Saxophone: Therese B., first, St. John.

* Brass — Trumpet: Olivia F., first, Liberty. French Horn: Nicholas B., first, St. John. Trombone: Isaiah V., first, Monrovia; and Nathan A., second, Liberty.

* Rhythm — Percussion: Matt E., first, Discovery. String Bass: Maja E., first, Discovery.

High School All-State Band:

* Woodwinds — Piccolo: Kayla M., first, Buckhorn High School. Flute: Sarah A., first, Sparkman High School; Michelle B., second, Bob Jones High School; Katie M., second, James Clemens High School; Aaron N., first, Sparkman. Clarinet: Andreanna T., first, Sparkman; Cindy R., third, James Clemens; Austin F., first, Sparkman; Samantha S., second, Sparkman; Casey D., fourth, Sparkman; Kaitlyn C., first, Bob Jones; Alisha L., second, Sparkman; Dori M., third, Sparkman; and Mallory K., fourth, Sparkman.
