‘I Love Lucy – Live on Stage’ opens March 27 at VBC

HUNTSVILLE – Audiences will be laughing uncontrollably when one of television’s most popular comedies translates to theatre with “I Love Lucy – Live on Stage!”

Broadway Theatre League is bringing the hilarious show to the Von Braun Center. Jerry Damson Automotive Group is 2014-2015 season sponsor. Show sponsor is WAAY-TV 31.

Airing from 1951 to 1957, “I Love Lucy” aired 179 episodes and endeared audiences with down-to-earth characters, sharp writing and Lucille Ball’s zany personality. In 2012, “People” magazine named “I Love Lucy” as “Best TV Show of All Time” and “Greatest TV Comedy.”

“I Love Lucy – Live on Stage!” will be presented in five performances in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall. Show times are March 27 at 8 p.m.; March 28 at 2 and 8 p.m.; and March 29 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

The stage show transports the audience back to 1952 as members of the Desilu Playhouse studio audience during filming of two “I Love Lucy” episodes. The Crystaltone Singers perform advertising jingles in perfect 1950s-style harmony.

Sidesplitting antics ensue with the crazy redhead Lucy, her Cuban nightclub singer and husband Ricky and their friends and landlords, Fred and Ethel Mertz. “I Love Lucy – Live on Stage!” opened in 2011 in Los Angeles and had its first national tour in 2013-2014.

Thea Duncan Brooks stars as Lucy Ricardo; Brooks has film credits and appeared in HBO’s “True Blood.” Euriamis Losado plays Ricky Ricardo and has appeared in “La Cage Aux Folles,” “Jekyll & Hyde” and “Romeo & Juliet.” Kevin Remington and Lori Hammel are cast as Fred and Ethel.
