Beacon Hill’s brunch honors survivors

MADISON – Beacon Hill Worship Center is hosting a Sunday brunch, “Pink with Purpose, Purple with Love,” on Oct. 18.

‘Pink’ represents breast cancer awareness, and purple for domestic violence.

“The idea came from our desire to honor breast cancer survivors and to inform women about the benefits of ‘early detection’ … and honor our women who have survived domestic violence,” spokesperson De’Lisha Clemons said.

Organizers want “women to be more aware of their bodies and know questions to ask their doctors during visits … and become aware of resources available to help them if they find themselves in domestic violence situations,” Clemons said. “Most importantly, to let them know, ‘They are not alone.'”

All women, regardless of race or religion, are welcome to the free brunch. Due to topics and needed privacy, this event is for ‘women only.’ “We want an environment conducive for women to feel comfortable to talk openly about things that may be affecting them or their loved ones,” Clemons said.

Women will enjoy “fellowship with other ladies that have survived breast cancer and domestic violence. They (can) experience love, hope and peace, among women unknown to them,” she said.

Open 8 to 10 a.m., the light brunch will offer assorted fruits and juice. Courtesy of the church, the brunch is free.

Beacon Hill’s sole mission is “to Encourage, Empower, Educate and Equip all individuals in their everyday life,” Clemons said. With this brunch, the women’s ministry can fulfill that same mission and offer women a time of fellowship, food and love.

Featured speakers will be Josie Thomas, a breast cancer survivor and author of “My Life After Cancer,” and Tanya Reagan, who is a survivor, court advocate and supervisor at HOPE Place Shelter.

The brunch will enlighten women about resources and support systems. “Again, they will know, “They are not alone,'” she said.
