Athlete of the Week —

MADISON – Cailyn Guthrie serves as a captain in the Color Guard with James Clemens High School Band.

The color guard performs marching routines with flags and rifles along with the band. Cailyn’s role as captain is to set an example for the rest of the team and lead them to be their best.

“Cailyn loves color guard and the team/coaches have become like family,” her mother Shawna Guthrie said. “She has lots of fun performing and making memories with her fellow teammates.”

Even with insufferable heat and rigorous work at band camp, “Cailyn still enjoyed getting to see everyone coming together to make something great,” Shawna said.

Cailyn, a junior at James Clemens, also participates in Interact Club and National Art Honor Society.

Shawna is a stay-at-home mom. Cailyn’s father, Mike Guthrie, works at Marshall Space Flight Center as a quality assurance supervisor. Cailyn’s brother Jacob is a seventh-grader at Liberty Middle School. Her sister Emma is a third-grader at Madison Elementary School.
