MADISON – Guests can delve an adventurous experience with “Community Conversations: Ilsa J. Bick” at Madison Public Library on May 5.

The ‘conversation’ will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. Students will be admitted free with identification.

“Huntsville Library Foundation’s ‘Community Conversations’ series is set to explore new literary frontiers in science fiction, horror and fantasy,” Ann Marie Martin said. Martin works as Communications Director for the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library system.

The first installment in the ‘conversations’ series examined social upheaval with Greg Iles and “The Bone Tree” in September 2015. “Then, we went on a family road trip with Homer Hickam and ‘Carrying Albert Home’ in January,” Martin said.

On May 5, Bick, an award-winning author, “will take us where no ‘Community Conversation has gone before,” Martin said. “Yes, science fiction fans, she’s written ‘Star Trek’ titles.”

Bick also is the author of the best-selling “Ashes” series of apocalyptic thrillers for young adults: “Ashes,” “Shadows” and “Monsters.” She has written two novels in “The Dark Passages” series, “White Space” and “The Dickens Mirror.”

Bick also is a well-traveled child psychiatrist and has worked as a forensic psychiatrist at a women’s prison, surgery intern, film scholar and a former U.S. Air Force major.

“In the world of these novels, ‘characters jump off the page and life falls between the lines,'” Martin said.

Founded in 1986, Huntsville Library Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that advocates for the library and acquires resources that enhance the library’s value to the community. These individuals work year-round to raise funds for the library’s 12 branches to better serve Madison County. For more information, visit huntsvillelibraryfoundation.org.
