Madison lets you breathe, Milam says
MADISON – “Who can’t love Madison?” Gayle Milam said, in a resounding endorsement of her city.
“The various events and festivals are always top notch, and each year they only get better,” Milam said. “Residents and business owners treat you like family and are always welcoming you with a smile.”
Age and gender doesn’t matter. “Madison has something to offer to everyone — young and elderly,” Milam said.
Milam works as Event and Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Madison.
“Madison is growing by leaps and bounds, but you still get that small-town feel,” Milam said. “I have always lived in smaller towns similar to Madison in size, but Madison is different because of the people and the atmosphere.”
“Madison residents, city leaders and city employees are proud of the city and it shows,” Milam said.
Born in Huntsville, Milam grew up in the county portion of Huntsville. She graduated from Buckhorn High School and received an associate’s degree in accounting from Calhoun Community College.
“As a little girl, we always drove out to Madison to breathe the fresh air and see the beauty that God created. I first lived in Madison in 1984 and moved here because of the ‘Southern’ feel that it gave,” Milam said.
Her husband Randy Milam is retired. Gail’s children are Drew and Lakeshia of Huntsville. Randy’s children are Courtney of Sewanee, Ga.; LeeAnne of Geraldine; and Vickie of Hazel Green. Randy and Gayle have four grandsons, two step-grandsons and three step-granddaughters.
“I have met so many amazing people while volunteering. I love being able to give back to people as well as the community,” Gayle said.
“My parents always told me, ‘Give more of yourself and expect nothing in return. If you do this, you will be a better person’ … and I find that to be true,” Gayle said.
Gayle owns a 12-year-old Australian shepherd named Ginger.
“I love country music and Southern rock. The Eagles and Patsy Cline will always be at the top of my list,” Gayle said.
Her favorite eateries are Main Street Cafe, The Hunt Club, Old Black Bear, Taziki’s and Tropical Smoothie Cafe.
