Mill Road segment closes for bridge work

MADISON – This summer, a section of Mill Road will be closed to through traffic to replace the bridge over Bradford Creek.

Workers constructed the existing bridge in 1937. The bridge is load-restricted and functionally obsolete. This bridge is posted as 13T-restricted and is located near the Bradford Greenway between Mose Chapel Road to the east and County Line Road to the west.

This section of Mill Road from Mose Chapel Road to County Line Road will be closed to through traffic from May 30 to Aug. 6. This time period coincides with the summer break for Madison City Schools and thus avoids traffic problems that would occur if school were in session.

A detour plan will be marked clearly along these roadways. City leaders ask residents who live within this closure to drive slowly and follow all posted signage and instruction from road crews.

To use the detour route, motorists driving west on Mill Road can turn north (right) on Mose Chapel Road and proceed to Browns Ferry Road. At Browns Ferry Road, turn left (west) to continue to County Line Road, or, turn right (east) to go to midtown Madison.

Motorists driving on County Line Road can use turn on Gillespie Road and then immediately turn south on Browns Ferry Road as an east-west corridor to reach midtown or downtown Madison (or continue on Gillespie Road to reach Balch Road or Wall Triana).

“The City of Madison thanks you for your patience as we continue upgrading infrastructure, resulting in improved safety and quality of life for our citizens,” Engineering Department spokesperson Jenny Spain said.

The Engineering Department for the City of Madison is located in City Hall, 100 Hughes Road. Residents who have any questions or need additional information related to this project can call Jenny Spain at 256-772-8431 or email jenny.spain@madisonal.gov.
