Resha Wingo immediately felt at home in Madison
MADISON – Moving to Madison in 1985, Resha Wingo “honestly felt it was where we needed to be since the first day we arrived.”
Both natives of Valley, Resha and Terry Wingo have been a couple since their senior prom. They’ll soon celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.
In 1985, their son Jody entered second grade. Daughter Anna was 2.5 years old. “We were pleasantly surprised that Jody was the ‘new kid’ only two weeks. Madison was hitting a growth spurt that wasn’t about to stop,” Resha said.
On their first day here, Rev. Marcus Long, pastor of Madison United Methodist Church, visited. “Within six months after joining the church, Asbury UMC was formed. We were blessed to be charter members,” Resha said. “The once quiet town of Madison was waking up and making some noise.”
The Wingos opened Madison Drugs in 1985. “Terry’s ultimate desire for his customers/patients is to help them heal. We transitioned from traditional pharmacy to compounding and natural products several years ago,” Resha said. The pharmacy’s address is 8 Parade St. in Providence.
Resha now works as full-time bookkeeper. “It cuts into my grandparent time somewhat, but we’re working it out,” she said.
For 20-plus years, Resha sang in Chancel Choir, participated with Emmaus Walk, performed with handbells and played keyboards for Asbury’s CHRIST youth choir. “It was indeed a commitment to play those years for CHRIST choir, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Whenever I see the kids, I get hugs and stories about what they’re doing and where they are,” she said.
“I always received bountiful blessings far greater than those I felt I gave,” Resha said.
Living in Atlanta, Jody is project manager for Kaiser Permanente. Anna, her husband and daughters live in Auburn. Jody and Anna are fourth-generation Auburn University graduates.
“We have two precious granddaughters (ages 5 and 3). They are our joys!” Resha said.
Resha’s most difficult year was 2016 when her sister passed away from cancer, her mother died eight months later; her father passed away in 2001. During road trips to Georgia, Resha found comfort in contemporary Christian musicians like Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, Matt Redman, Danny Gokee and Lauren Daigle.
“Music has always been part of my heartbeat,” Resha said.
The Wingos enjoy eating at Main Street Cafe and Outback Steakhouse. They miss Thomas Bar B Q but have discovered Joe Mo’s Ba-Ba-Cue.
