Lt. Col. Chris Honea serves in active, reserves healthcare

MADISON – Lieutenant Colonel Christopher W. ‘Chris’ Honea has completed 30 years of service.

In 1987, he completed Army Basic and Advanced Individual Training. Honea then studied with U.S. Army Institute for Professional Development. He was affiliated with 3392nd U.S. Army Reserves (54B and 31D).

He completed Officer’s Advance Course, Phase I and Captain’s Career Course, Phase II. In 2008, Honea worked with Nurse Case Management for Warrior Transition Unit Cadre Support, along with Support Orientation. In the 2010 timeframe, he was assigned to various phases of ILE and completed Equal Opportunity Leaders Course.

In active duty, Honea served at Fort Sill, Okla. With the reserves, he was SPC and Sergeant with Cannon Crew Member, Fire Directional Center, NBC NCO 54B and USAR Control Group in Cullman. In Alabama Army National Guard, Honea worked as Senior XMSN (Transmission) SYS Operator in various battalions.

Also in reserves, he worked as Clinical Nurse in Chattanooga, Tenn. and St. Louis, Mo. and as Lieutenant Colonel with Training Support Battalion at Fort Gordon, Ga. With MED DET – Alabama, he served as Clinical Nurse, Detachment Commander and Public Health Nurse.  

After entering the U.S. Army Reserves in 1987 as Private 1, he reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in June 2017 for USAR and Army Reserves National Guard.

Honea’s current assignment is Warrior Transition Office – Clinical OIC with Regional Health Command at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. His civilian occupation is Regional Nurse Manager for Alabama and Georgia with WeCare TLC.

“I was brought to Madison with a new partnership with Pareto Health and Wellness Center and WeCare TLC,” he said.

His decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation and Achievement medals, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and Armed Forces Reserve Medal, among others.  

His wife Sharon works as a registered nurse at Albertville Elementary School. Their children are Alex Christopher, Albertville High School senior, and Emily Grace, Albertville Middle School eighth-grader. The family attends Brashers Chapel Church.

After attending Gadsden State and Snead State community colleges, Honea earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

His special interests are farming and “keeping up with the kids in band, sports and dance.”
