Beautification efforts recognized at luncheon

MADISON – Madison Beautification and Tree Board complimented the work of local business owners, neighborhoods and schools at the 2017 Madison Beatification Awards luncheon.

Best Western Plus hotel hosted the luncheon on June 22. “Properties and businesses of Madison were recognized for their contribution to ‘Keeping Madison Beautiful’ through their efforts and participation,” publicist Mike Keenan said.

Seventy-two locations earned a beautification award. “Twenty-six properties received an award of ‘Excellence,’ and 46 properties received ‘Honor Roll’ status,” Vice President of Beautification Amber Braman said.

To earn a rating of ‘Excellence’, owners must rate a perfect score of 100 by satisfying each judging standard category. To earn ‘Honor Roll’ status, a property must have received 95 points or higher for five consecutive years, Braman said.

Several types of properties received awards:

* Madison City Schools campuses — Bob Jones High School; Discovery and Liberty middle schools; and Columbia, Horizon and West Madison elementary schools.

* City properties – Dublin Park, Madison City Gateway and Madison Fire Stations #2, #3.

* Churches — Asbury United Methodist Church, Madison Church of Christ.

* Restaurants – Chick-fil-A 7885, Cracker Barrel, EDO Japanese Restaurant, Ted’s Bar-B-Q.

* Business properties — Arbor Crossings, Best Western Plus, Catbird Seat Garden Center, Hampton Inn, Indian Creek Nursery, La Quinta, LifeSouth, Madison Professional Center, STI Electronics Inc., Woodland Homes.

* Medical offices — Arlington Dentistry, Crestwood Madison, Madison Hospital, Madison Hospital – The Healing Garden, Madison Surgery Center, Sullins Eye Care and Valley View Health & Rehabilitation LLC.

* Neighborhoods — Abbington Downs, Belmont Place, Bradford Farms, Breckenridge, Brownsferry Crossing, Cambridge at Heritage Plantation, Cedar Springs Station, Chapel Hill, Clift’s Cove, Crown Pointe, Edgewater, Foxfield, Gate House Manor, Greenbriar Woods, Heritage Plantation, Heritage Provence, Highland Lakes, Hillchase, Hunington Chase, Millstone, Oxford, Shamrock, Stratford Square, The Reserve at Bridgefield, The Town of Cambridge at Heritage Plantation, Walden (Conservancy, Emerson, Walden Glen), Waterford at Heritage Plantation, Wellington, West Highlands (Balch and Gooch roads), Windstone, Woodland Hill.

* Apartment communities – Abby Glen – A Quiet Cove, Colonial Grand at Madison, Hawthorne at the Ridge, The Villas at Madison, Windscape.

Madison Beautification and Tree Board is buying new award signs that will have a distinguishing look for the City of Madison, compared to those for Huntsville. “The beautification board will be installing new signage in late summer or early fall,” Braman said.

Braman encourages residents to considering joining the beautification board and give productive volunteer time to the community.
