Bob Jones alumni starting scholarship

MADISON – Ten years after leaving campus, members of the Class of 2007 at Bob Jones High School are brainstorming to establish a scholarship for in-need students at their alma mater.

“When our reunion committee first met with Bob Jones (staff) about our reunion, we asked,  ‘Is there any need that you have that we can fill?'” 2007 class president James Fowler said in a web video. “As a group, collectively we can give back in some way.”

“We heard some sad stories about students who dreamed of going to college and worked hard to get good grades and test scores. However, they were ultimately unable to fulfill their dreams due to a lack of financial support,” Fowler said.

Alumni from 2007, Superintendent Robby Parker and Madison Board of Education met to work out details for the “Bob Jones High School Alumni and Community Partners Scholarship Endowment Fund.” “The scholarship will go the students who need it the most,” Fowler said.

“We will have a professional investor manage (the funds) through the school system,” Fowler said. “The interest that the money gains every year is what provides the scholarships. Every year, scholarships come out of this.”

Fowler hopes that his fellow classmates will unite to support the new scholarship. “Please consider what you may be able to give to support these fellow Patriots. Let’s change the lives of these BJHS students with $5, $50 or $500 at a time,” he said.

To donate to the scholarship or buy reunion tickets, visit bjhsclassof2007.com and the click the “Tickets, T-Shirts and Donations” menu. For donations, click “Donate” under the video. To buy tickets or T-shirts, click “Add to Cart” in the appropriate section.

For its reunion weekend, the Class of 2007 will gather on Oct. 20 for the Bob Jones football game. The alumni will tailgate before the game at 211 Celtic Drive, view the game in a reserved section and then meet at Old Black Bear at 208 Main St. in downtown Madison.

On Oct. 21, alumni families can tour new renovations at Bob Jones. Then from 6 to 10 p.m., classmates will meet at Campus 805 at 2610 Clinton Ave. W. in Huntsville for the adult-only party.
