Central Office to host dyslexia workshops

MADISON – Madison City Schools will host two free workshops for parents about dyslexia at the Central Office, 211 Celtic Drive.

The first session will be a “Lunch & Learn” talk on dyslexia on Oct. 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents can bring a brown bag lunch and hear Dr. Denise P. Gibbs, a contributor to the “Alabama Dyslexia Resources Guide” and a dyslexia advisor to the Alabama Department of Education.

Gibbs will share simulation training activities for dyslexia. The lunch session also will include a demonstration and explanation of Spire Reading Intervention.

The second session on Oct. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. will examine early literacy and language development. Carol Koch and Karen Thatcher, speech-language pathologists from Samford University, will lead the discussion.
