MCS to open with 2-hour delay on Jan . 18

Madison City Schools has two-hour delay on Jan. 18 —

Everyone,

Madison City Schools will re-open Thursday, Jan. 18, under a two-hour delay. That pushes start times to the following schedule:

Pre-K, 9:55.
Elementary, 9:40.
Middle school, 10:05.
High school, 10:15.

The sun allowed for much thawing today but we are still in the grips of an Arctic cold front. Temperatures into daybreak Thursday are expected to be in the teens, with wind chills in the single digits by the time the first buses would have rolled. I’m concerned about refreezing on neighborhood streets and secondary roads – many that still had large sections covered in ice. The frigid temperatures would make walking and standing at the bus stops miserable.

I’m looking forward to schools re-opening and getting our kids back. I just want it to be safe for everyone to return.

Temperatures are expected to climb above freezing tomorrow and gradually rise the rest of the week. Hopefully, we’ve put this wintry mess behind us.

Robby Parker
Superintendent, Madison City School
