Bigelow Ready To Defend Freedom
MADISON- “I really feel I was put on this earth to serve my country and I have no regrets on my plans to do so,” stated Michael Bigelow, who, as a senior at James Clemens High, is in the midst of making a decision that will change his life for the future.
The “Big E” as he’s called as a member of the Jets’ baseball program where he plays outfield, Bigelow is also a big force in the classroom as he has a 4.7 grade point average and has been accepted by West Point and waiting on an invite to join the Naval Academy. “I most likely will make a career in the military and would love to study mechanical or aerospace engineering,” said Bigelow. “I could also follow in my father’s footsteps as he works for the U.S. Military.”
At 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds, Bigelow, the son of Scott and Susan Bigelow, played baseball, football and basketball while growing up in Madison where he was chosen on several All-Star teams and named team captain. Once arriving at James Clemens he chose to concentrate on just baseball, but his real desire was to excel in the classroom and make his way to defending his country by attending one of the military branches.
“My grandfather was in the Navy and he has always been one of my great role models and he has pushed me as an inspiration to do what I feel I need to do in my life,” said Bigelow. “He’s very proud of my decision to follow him in his footsteps.”
Blessed with great health and being virtually injury free, Bigelow strives to make good plays on the baseball field as he has played both infield and outfield over the many years in the sport. His true place in his life is serving his country and defending the freedom every American enjoys.
“I’ve talked to my girlfriend about my decision and that’s a tough conversation for sure, but she’s very supportive and wants me to take the opportunity I have,” said Bigelow. “It’s a scary thought of joining the military and the danger that lies within, but somebody has to take those steps to defend our freedom.”
Bigelow said his father has also been a leader in shaping his life. He added, “I appreciate the organizational aspect and discipline he has presented me and those fit my lifestyle. My father and I have had a very close relationship, especially through baseball.”
Bigelow will soon make the important decision on which academy he attends. He’s leaning towards the Naval Academy as that has always been his dream, but knows West Point has already stated he’s a young man they certainly can use. His father works for the U.S. Government and protects the country in a different way than the young Bigelow will do in the military.
“He inspires me to be the most Patriotic I can be and defend our freedom in any way I feel led to,” added Bigelow. “Attending a military academy is the best preparation I can receive.”
