Summit named tech company of the year at Huntsville/Madison County Small Business Awards
HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville office of Summit Information Solutions Inc. was awarded the title of 2018 Technology Company of the Year at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Awards on Aug. 14.
The research and development-focused facility is a satellite office to Summit’s headquarters in Glen Allen, Virginia. Owner and President Shuganti Caradonna founded the consulting firm in Virginia in 2002 before her husband, Chris, joined in 2005. The pair opened their Huntsville office in 2014.
Shuganti accepted the award at the event on behalf of the company.
“Summit believes in Huntsville, its people and giving back to the community,” she said. “We are fortunate to have a talented, multi-faceted team that’s helped grow our business significantly over the last 16 years.”
Executive Vice President Chris Caradonna echoed his wife’s excitement about winning the award.
“We’re very thankful and very grateful to be recognized for such an award in the Huntsville, Alabama, … area because it’s kind of known for its innovation and its technology,” Chris said. “That’s kind of made it sweeter.”
Chris said he and Shuganti met in Huntsville while they were attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Shuganti had been in the area longer and graduated from Bob Jones High School in Madison.
“We’re both very familiar with Huntsville, and we always knew we kind of wanted to have a presence in Huntsville as well,” Chris said.
The Caradonnas not only maintain a connection to the city of Huntsville through their company, but to their alma mater as well. Chris said Summit has a partnership with UAH in which they collaborate on research projects for companies like NASA.
“We have a very unique lab set up in Huntsville that we feel can be of great service to the Huntsville community and to, obviously, Redstone Arsenal, and NASA,” Chris said. “We think we have a very unique capability of differentiating with our lab.”
In addition to winning Technology Company of the Year, Summit was also nominated for Woman-Owned Business of the Year. That award went to Canvas Inc.
