Lowe’s in Madison celebrates 20 years in business

MADISON — Lowe’s Home Improvement had plenty to celebrate Saturday. The Madison store held a ribbon cutting, offered giveaways and cut into a large cake the morning of Nov. 10 to commemorate the milestone.

Several Lowe’s employees and members of the Madison Chamber of Commerce came out for the occasion, as well as Madison City Council President Tommy Overcash.

The celebration began with the presentation of the colors, courtesy of members of the Bob Jones High School JROTC. The students were led by CMSgt. Ellis Clark.

Beverly Moon, who helped open the Madison location in 1998 and currently serves as a human resources manager at the store, thanked the community for keeping Lowe’s going for two decades.

“[We’re] especially excited that we have been in Madison for 20 years,” Moon said at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “Madison has been very good to us, and we really appreciate all of you helping us and making us successful.”

Assistant Store Manager BJ Balentine, who has been working with Lowe’s for more than 20 years, took some time to thank the community as well.

“Obviously, we’re not here and we’re not successful without each and every one of you guys, so thank you for 20 great years, and we look forward to many, many more with you guys and serving you guys,” he said.

Chamber board president Carmelita Palmer thanked Lowe’s for their own contributions to the community since planting roots in the community in 1998.

“Lowe’s has been very, very good to the Madison community, and we appreciate that so, so much,” she said.

Overcash, who has lived in Madison for more than 30 years, recalled when Lowe’s first set up shop in Madison. For him and his family, the new location meant seeking home improvement supplies for various house and yard projects became much more convenient.

“Anybody that knows us—we always have a project going on in our yard or our house, and I come to Lowe’s at least once every weekend, sometimes three or four times,” he said.

Before the Madison store opened in 1998, the nearest Lowe’s was located in Huntsville.

Like Palmer, Overcash also thanked Lowe’s for their contributions to the Madison community over the years. He recognized in particular the store’s part in providing fun activities for children at the Madison Street Festival.

“We’re pretty excited for y’all to be here,” Overcash said. “Twenty years is a major achievement. We are really appreciative of the revenue and the county support, and we’re just grateful that you’re still here.”

Madison Fire and Rescue was also present onsite at the celebration to give away free smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, as well as plastic firefighter hats for children.

Lowe’s is located at 7920 Highway 72 in Madison.
