Michigan State’s Joshua Langford Will Miss Remainder Of Season
East Lansing, Mich.- Michigan State junior guard Joshua Langford, formerly of Madison Academy, will sit the remainder of the 2018-2019 season due to a left foot injury that will require surgery. One of the best shooters in the Big Ten Conference making 40-percent or better from the three-point line in each of his three seasons with the Spartans was averaging 15 points prior to his injury during a game in late December.
“Josh has a stress injury that we caught fairly early and we had hoped that with treatment and rest he would recover,” said Tom Izzo head coach of Michigan State. “Josh has seen the best specialist in the country on this issue and we are putting together a plan for his complete recovery for the 2019-2020 season.”
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard for the No. 6 Spartans was a five-time All-State player for Madison Academy helping the Mustangs win three AHSAA state titles. He graduated in 2016. His younger sister Jaden is an All-State player for the Lady Mustangs as a junior and has led the team to a current No. 3 ranking in Class 5A.
Away from the national limelight with the Spartans, Langford spends much of his free time in a group called the Rivers of Life and its bible study three times a week. A devoted Christian and son of Tellus and Yolanda Langford, the college student-athlete knew early on in his high school years he wanted to attend Michigan State. He was a highly recruited high school player by the best programs in the country, but he said, “God has led me on my path and this choice. I’m very comfortable where I am.”
“Throughout the process here at Michigan State, Josh has done everything asked of him, while maintaining an amazing attitude and doing whatever he could to help his teammates,” said Izzo. “His selfless attitude is the reason there were tears throughout the meeting room when we shared the news with the team. I never felt worse for a player than I do for Josh. He’s constantly telling me to not worry about him but focus on the team. It’s the reason I have so much respect and admiration for the way he’s handled the injury.”
