Staff Member of the Year goes to Pruden at Bob Jones

MADISON – In her first year as bookkeeper, Angela Pruden has received the honor of “Staff Member of the Year” at Bob Jones High School.

However, Pruden is no stranger to the Patriot campus. In her eighth year at Bob Jones, she has worked as a permanent substitute teacher for three years and as attendance monitor for four years.

Before Bob Jones, Pruden worked for various employers. “My job titles ranged from payroll clerk to public relations specialist to administrative secretary to office manager,” she said. “I worked in payroll, marketing and administration throughout my years.”

Pruden earned a bachelor’s degree in music and vocal performance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1988. “Since 1995, I’ve been in the Madison/Athens area. My daughter and I currently live in East Limestone,” Pruden said.

At her church, Pruden helps with youth services. “I spend a good bit of my time at Bob Jones’ athletic events. I love supporting my kids,” she said.

From her years at school, Pruden will never forget third-grade teacher, Mrs. Fells. “She was the first teacher who understood that I was ‘borderline hyperactive,’ and I couldn’t sit still in a desk,” Pruden said.

“Mrs. Fells let me help with classroom errands, calling roll, reading to the class, calling out words to spelling tests and anything that would keep me from going crazy sitting in a desk,” Pruden said. “I really felt like Mrs. Fells understood me. I actually stayed out of trouble that entire school year.”

Pruden’s daughter is graduating from Bob Jones this year and will attend the University of South Alabama in Mobile.

I’ve lived in the same 100 miles my entire life. I’ve never lived more than 15 miles from I-65 as the crow flies,” Pruden said.

Away from work, Pruden enjoys reading, attending Bob Jones sports events and devoting plenty of time to her family.
