Youth Fishing Rodeo at Brahan Spring Park to be held Saturday

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville will host its annual Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo at Brahan Spring Park this Saturday, June 1. The free event for children ages 6-12, will take place in the park’s north lagoon, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

It’s an annual family favorite, so have the kids grab their fishing equipment and bring their chairs and catfish bait for a morning of fun and prizes. The lagoon will be stocked with 500 pounds of catfish, so everyone has a good chance of landing a big one.

Participants must be registered before the 8:30 a.m. start time to be eligible for prizes. Children fish on their own; however, parents may assist in putting bait on the hook and taking the fish off the hook once the child has reeled in the fish.

Twenty-three fish will be tagged for $1,300 in cash prizes! There will also be prize awards for “Most Fish Caught” and “Largest Fish Caught” in Boys and Girls categories for 8 and under, 10 and under, and 12 and under, along with Boys and Girls prizes for “Overall Heaviest Stringer.”

Registration from 7 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.; Fishing from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.; Awards from 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. Brahan Spring Park is located at 500 Drake Ave SW in Huntsville.

The Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo started more than 30 years ago as a free community event organized by the City of Huntsville’s Parks & Recreation department.
