Heat advisory in effect this afternoon and tomorrow

NORTH ALABAMA – A heat advisory is in effect beginning at 1 p.m. today through 6 p.m. Tuesday for areas generally along and west of Fayetteville, Huntsville and Guntersville.

Heat index values will reach 100-107 degrees this afternoon, and 103-110 degrees on Tuesday afternoon.

Prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke by staying out of direct sun, drinking plenty of water, and taking plenty of breaks in an air-conditioned environment. NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS IN A HOT CAR!

Delay outdoor work if you can until the temperature cools down some. See the suggestions on the charts below. Remember to check on those that aren’t able to tolerate the heat as well, such as elderly neighbors and relatives as well as those with illnesses that reduce their ability to cope with the heat. Should you experience a heat related emergency, call 911.
