Oct. 31 deadline looms for Madison Street Festival grant applications

MADISON – Every October, Madison Street Festival generates goodwill by offering a venue for clubs and school groups to showcase their endeavors. The festival’s camaraderie continues as the MSF steering committee divests proceeds back to Madison non-profit organizations.

Deadline to apply for a MSF grant is Oct. 31.

Community grants are open to groups or organizations that provide educational opportunities and work to increase literacy for Madison residents. With the grants, the MSF Committee intends to support Madison students of all ages and abilities as they seek access to higher education or continuing education programs.

To apply for a grant, visit madisonstreetfestival.org and click “Grants” in the pulldown menus. Grant applications are available annually by July 1. A group must submit an application using the MSF website for consideration of a grant.

Completed applications are due by 5 p.m. on Oct. 31. The MSF Grant Committee will review and evaluate all accepted applications and recommend to the MSF Executive Committee the recipients and amounts of grant money.

The MSF Executive Committee will determine the award recipients and dollar amounts. After that decision, the MSF Grant Committee Chair will notify all award recipients and present the awards at a meeting of Madison City Council.

The grant chair also will contact applicants who did not receive a grant. Groups or organizations who previously received a MSF community grant can apply for a new grant after completing the “Completion Form” section on the MSF website.

After the 2018 Madison Street Festival, the MSF Steering Committee issued $10,580 in grants. In addition, one senior at both James Clemens and Bob Jones high school received a scholarship for $1,000.

The 2018 recipients included Liberty Middle School Band, The Riley Behavioral & Educational Center, Bob Jones High School Science Department, Discovery Middle School language arts, Bob Jones Counseling Center, Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center for Madison art students, West Madison Elementary School Library, Liberty Choir, and SpringUP Ministries and Wellness Center for suicide prevention literature.

Madison Street Festival is held annually on the first Saturday in October. The 2020 MSF date is Oct. 3, 2020.
