Jets stay undefeated with Class 7A Region win over Austin
MADISON — The James Clemens Jets remained undefeated Thursday night when they hosted the Austin Black Bears, racking up a 31-14 win at home.
The win was the second Class 7A region contest in a row for the Jets. They had chances in the first half to take control but were unable to capitalize, resulting in the game slipping away in the second half.
James Clemens opened the scoring with a safety thanks to a bad snap out the back of the end zone.
Austin would grab their only lead of the game in the second quarter when Tyler Cooper rushed in from 34 yards to make it 7-2.
James Clemens closed the half with a 45-yard touchdown to make it 10-7 and then opened the half with a 26-yard score to push the lead to 17-14. Austin cut the lead to 17-14, but the Jets responded to go ahead 24-14, before icing the game with a final score in the last two minutes.
Two of the biggest plays of the night came when James Clemens quarterback Gio Lopez avoided sure sacks and instead scrambled to throw a 45-yard touchdown to Keymari Pittman in the first half. He then completed a pass to Gabriel Ballard for a two-point conversion to lead the Jets over Austin 10-7 at the half. Later, Lopez converted a crucial fourth and six in the second half.
Dante Snodgrass had a big night for the Jets with three touchdowns in the second half. He scored with a rushing touchdown early in the second half. His second touchdown came in the form of a 10-yard rush late in the third. His third was a 3-yard rush into the end zone. Aaron Rowe provided the PATs.
With the win the Jets improve to 4-0 for the season and 2-0 in Class 7A Region 4. They travel to Huntsville next Friday night for another Class 7A contest.
