Dead Parrots Society to raise guests’ spirits and funds for Kids Kingdom

MADISON – The Dead Parrots Society bash will debut on Oct. 30 as a fun-filled evening of music and libations while raising funds for renovation of Kids Kingdom in Dublin Park.

The first annual Dead Parrots Society will run from 6 to 11 p.m. at Black Patch Distilling Co., 500 Lanier Road in Madison. The night of Halloween frivolity will include musical entertainment, dancing and a costume contest to masquerade in a getup, gimmick or, conveniently, wearing a mask in style.

Rotary Club of Madison is sponsoring the event to support renovation of Kids Kingdom and other charitable projects throughout the year.

“Rotary Club has been doing Parrots of the Caribbean for over a decade. We felt like it was time to do something new and fresh to attract a larger group of people in the community,” Rotarian Melissa Gibson said. “Since there isn’t a community Halloween event for adults in Madison, we felt this was a great opportunity to start a new tradition for years to come.”

Nerdy Boy Productions LLC, a premier mobile DJ service in North Alabama, will handle deejay spins. Alex McLemore (aka DJ Nerdy Boy) owns and operates the service, with 15-plus years of experience in live sound and lighting production, along with six years in mobile DJ production.

Several food trucks, including Mac and Snacks, Momma’s Kitchen and Loaded Empanada, will feed the crowd. “Adult beverages will include beer, wine and a special event signature drink from a cashless bar. We’ll serve a Morgue-a-rita — a ghoulish twist on a classic margarita,” Gibson said.

An online auction will open on Oct. 20 and continue through Oct. 30. An auction site will be available with Rotary’s website (madisonalrotary.org) and Facebook page. Examples of themed baskets are Hole in One, golf supplies; Sports Mania, first pitch of 2022 with Trash Pandas; Sweet Home Alabama; Puppy Love; Happy Holidays; and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Guests also can bid on standalones, like weekend getaways, jewelry, sports tickets and lifestyle services.

Early bird tickets cost $25 through Oct. 23 at Eventbrite.com. Afterwards, tickets will cost $30 with Eventbrite.com or at the event.

Tom Florence is serving as chair for Dead Parrots Society. Catherine Beitel is co-chair.

The event is open to anyone at least 21 years old. Identification will be required.

“We would like to recognize Black Patch Distillery. They have been very generous in donating their facilities for the event,” Gibson said. “Their generosity will greatly impact the amount we can give back to rebuilding of Kids Kingdom.”
