Returning to Mill Creek, now as principal, pleases Nathan Wilson

MADISON – Nathan Wilson soon will be managing day-to-day routines for faculty and students as Principal at Mill Creek Elementary School.

His predecessor, Carmen Taylor Tubb, recently retired.

“A few years ago, I fell in love with the Mill Creek students, community, faculty and staff,” Wilson said. “I was a sixth-grade ELA (English Language Arts) teacher at Mill Creek and then moved into a leadership role as the school’s first MAAP or Madison City Aspiring Administrative Program.”

“I am very thankful to have the opportunity to be back and serve as principal of this wonderful school,” Wilson said. Mill Creek’s enrollment is 976 students.

In many ways, Wilson’s work will remain the same when building relationships with teachers, students and parents. “I will continue to work with the Mill Creek leadership team to lead the school,” he said.

Wilson worked as a classroom teacher for grades 2-3 and 5 in the Madison County Schools. He coached middle-school girls’ basketball and softball.

“I worked as a sixth-grade ELA teacher in the Madison City Schools district and served as the MAAP at Mill Creek. I also coached the Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Team at Bob Jones,” he said. Most recently, Wilson worked as Assistant Principal at Heritage Elementary School.

As he transitions, Wilson does not plan on any major changes at Mill Creek for the remainder of the school year. “I want this to be an easy transition for all of those that are involved,” he said.

At the University of North Alabama, he received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in instructional leadership.

At Mill Creek, Kiley Rikard serves as Assistant Principal. Demetria Patterson works as a Madison City Aspiring Administrator or MAAP.

Nathan’s wife, Randi Wilson, teaches third-graders at Central School with the Madison County Schools district. She has taught for 15 years. The Wilsons’ sons are eight-year-old Cooper in third grade and Rhett, who is three years old.

“I’m a huge Auburn fan! War Eagle!” Wilson said.
