James Clemens Highlights All-State Basketball Selections; Sullivan Named Coach Of The Year

MADISON- The incredible run for the coveted state championship came up just short for the James Clemens boy’s basketball team with its two-point loss to Enterprise in the state title game. The loss was hard to swallow, but post-season awards can sweeten the taste of defeat and such is the case for the Jets in the 2022 Alabama Sports Writers Association 2022 All-State Teams.

James Clemens senior Jordan Frazier (6-5, G) was named to the All-State First-Team for his outstanding senior campaign for the Jets. Frazier poured in 15 points in the team’s loss to the Wildcats in the Class 7A final game in Birmingham. On the season, the senior led the Jets with 17.6 points per game along with 4.4 rebounds shooting 47-percent from the field. He’s one of three finalist for the 7A Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball of Alabama.

The ASWA also named James Clemens head coach Frankie Sullivan as Class 7A Coach of the Year.

“It has been a blessed year as it seemed this team came together after the Christmas break,” said Sullivan of his 2022 honor. “The players took control of our practices from the standpoint of working hard. Our senior leadership showed they were in control.”

The Jets made their final run in grand style. Sullivan added, “We got back to the basic skills of the game as we kept it simple. Our defense really came on in the second half of the season and that’s what got us to the State Finals. I want to thank the school administration, my coaching staff and our players as they all believed in what we were doing.”

At the State Tournament, James Clemens had a very vocal bevy of fans in attendance. They could be easily heard and Sullivan said the team knew they had support. “I especially want to give our student section who attended our games a big shout-out. They made a difference for us.”

Sparkman’s Calen Lightford (5-11, G. Sr.) was named to the Third Team All-State.

In girls, two local players made the All-State selections. Emariah Grant (5-3, G, Sr.) of Bob Jones and Sparkman’s Kennedy Langham (5-9, G-F, Jr.) were chosen as Second Team members by the AWSA.
