Reece, Madison Academy put on a show in jamboree vs East Limestone

MADISON — Madison Academy put on a clinic in its Friday jamboree matchup against East Limestone with a 48-10 landslide at home.

The Mustangs were led by their senior wide receiver Jackson Reece who accounted for three touchdowns in this lopsided showcase.

Reece had a pair of TD catches in the game, but the 2-time state champion track star got to show off his wheels at the very beginning with a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

“The first thing I wanted to do was just cleanly catch the ball,” Reece said.

“After that, I had some great blocks from my teammates and the hole just opened like the Red Sea.”

Senior running back Ken Cherry ended up with a pair of touchdown runs in the victory that was seemingly over by the end of the first quarter.

On the defensive side of the ball, Madison Academy was out there punishing East Limestone with hard-hitting and opportunistic playmaking.

One guy who was everywhere like a ghost for the Mustangs on defense was the cornerback No. 6 Maurice Scott who recovered two fumbles and factored in on several big plays.

The junior was there to break up a pass in the endzone on a fourth downplay that failed for the Indians in the second half and when the East Limestone quarterback decided to scamper down the middle of the field, there was Scott to stop him dead in his tracks with a sickening hit.

Reece’s kickoff return to begin the game set the tone for how things were going to go as the Mustangs took the prompt 7-0 lead at 11:38.

The Indians got on the board with a 23-yard field goal by senior Jan Stotz to make it 7-3 at the 8:21 mark of the first quarter.

Madison Academy answered with 6:48 to play in the first quarter when quarterback Jake Poldiak found Reece for a touchdown that pushed the Mustangs’ advantage to 14-3.

The game spiraled further on East Limestone when Cherry punched the rock into the endzone on a 4-yard touchdown carry to expand the Mustang lead to 21-3 at 1:34 in the first quarter.

Madison Academy plays its first game of the season on August 25 on the road against Deshler.
