Jets fly through Bob Jones in rivalry tilt

MADISON — The James Clemens Jets (2-1) soared past their cross-town rival Bob Jones (0-3) with a lop-sided victory 40-13 on Friday.

Madison City Stadium was packed with Jets and Patriots fans to the point where many had to stand along the fence row because the stands were running over.

James Clemens junior receiver Ty Doughty was seemingly untouchable whenever he had the football.

Doughty finished with three touchdowns including a 42-yard punt return in the blowout.

After struggling a week ago with turnovers on Thursday against Mountain Brook, Jets quarterback Ty Marsh bounced back in a major way with three touchdown passes.

Bob Jones’s offensive attack was severely diminished by the absence of their starting quarterback Dylan Willingham who left the Athens game a week ago with a left leg injury.

All Willingham could do was watch helplessly from the sideline as his Patriots struggled to keep pace with James Clemens.

It was a game that struggled to find a rhythm because of countless penalty calls.

The officiating was overbearing to the point that drives would be halted for minutes due to the stripes trying to figure out what the correct call needed to be.

Then there was a lack of clarity from the referee regarding what was even called or reversed after all the deliberation.

JC struck first with a 2-yard touchdown run on the goal line by DJ Williams that handed James Clemens the 7-0 advantage with 2:47 to play in the first quarter.

The Patriots seemed to have a chance to keep the game close early on when running back Tyren Washington found the endzone from six yards out to make it just 7-6 Jets at the 8:54 mark of the second quarter.

James Clemens was able to put together bigger plays though like when Marsh connected with senior Devon Cooper for a 78-yard strike to make it 13-6 Jets with 1:41 to play in the first half.
