Little Booths Market Day to premiere for young retailers
Downtown event to premiere in July for young entrepreneurs
MADISON – A special event for young, aspiring entrepreneurs and vendors will debut with Little Booths Market Day on July 12.
Little Booths Market Day is designed to give children and teenagers from five to 17 years old a venue to sell handmade goods, art, desserts and more. The youth will have the chance to interact like business owners during the free, family-centered shopping from 1 to 5 p.m.
“Each child will run their own booth while gaining real-world experience in leadership, customer service, communication and money management,” founder/coordinator Breanna Griffin said. “This is our very first year, and it’s already blossoming into something bigger and more beautiful than I ever imagined.”
This market “means the world to me. What makes this event so special is the kids themselves . . . the joy on their faces when they feel seen, heard and capable. It’s watching shy children light up when they get to introduce their brand. It’s seeing families come together to support a dream,” Griffin said.
Originally, Griffin expected only a few families might participate. However, approximately 60 youth-run booths have signed up.
“We’re working hard to keep this event completely free for families to attend and as affordable as possible for participating vendors,” Griffin said. The $25 vendor donation covers the child’s booth space, table and two chairs, lunch and access to a confidence-building workshop.
Sponsorship or donations “will show these young people that their dreams are worth investing in. That their ideas matter. That our community is behind them,” Griffin said.
A contribution will help to equip booths or buy lunch for 100-plus children and volunteers; workshop materials; prize giveaways for first- through thirdplace winners; and a welcoming environment with a DJ.
For all confirmed sponsors, Little Booths Market Day will include the business’ logo on promotional media; recognition at the event; and a thank-you post.
“I’m a mom of three daughters. Everything I do is inspired by the kind of world I want them — and all our kids — to grow up in. A world where they feel empowered to lead. Where their talents are celebrated,” Griffin said.
Griffin’s daughters are 11-yearold Mia, a seventh-grader at Liberty Middle School; eight-year-old Kenley, a third-grader at Columbia Elementary School; and sixyear- old Kara, a kindergartener at Columbia.
“We hope you’ll join us in making Little Booths Market Day a day to remember,” Griffin said.
