Hallman, Auffenorde, Bartley and therapeutic art set for Blue Apple Books in July

MADISON – Nail-biting literary drama, self-help and healthy relaxation are on the July schedule at Blue Apple Books.

Alabama author Jennifer Hallman on July 10 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. will conduct family story time and book signing. Also on July 10, Hallman will lead preschool story time at Madison Public Library at 10:30 a.m.

Hallman’s book, “How Mae Got Moxie,” is “perfect for readers of all ages. This beautifully crafted story takes you on Mae’s journey as she overcomes challenges, finds her inner strength and learns to embrace her unique voice,” Blue Apple Books owner Robin Dauma said.

“With heartfelt illustrations created in Birmingham and brought to life by a women-led publishing house, ‘How Mae Got Moxie’ is a testament to the power of creativity, community and courage,” Hallman said.

Hallman’s company, Moxie + Mae, is based in Birmingham.

July’s next session will be local author Daco Auffenorde, celebrating the release of her latest novel, “The Medici Curse.” Auffenorde will offer a Meet-&-Greet and book signing at Blue Apple on July 12 from 3 to 5 p.m.

In “The Medici Curse,” Auffenorde blends Gothic atmosphere and supernatural elements with a gripping exploration of identity and legacy. The book crafts a tale of family scandal, murder, art and intrigue with aspiring artist, Anna de’ Medici Rossi. She inherits her family’s opulent villa in Tuscany.

Living there as a child, Anna suffered from debilitating night terrors, frequently waking and sleepwalking. During one sleepwalking episode for 12-year-old Anna, her mother fell down the stairs and died. The death was ruled an accident, but an heirloom ruby-and-diamond necklace was missing. What happened to this jewelry?

In other work, Auffenorde wrote “Cover Your Tracks,” which won “Best of 2020” for thriller/suspense and “Action Thriller of the Year” from a thriller genre group.

Next on the schedule, the “Therapeutic Art-Making Group Session” aims to relieve the summertime blahs. This meeting on July 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. is designed for anyone at least 16 years old looking to reduce stress, integrate cognitive/emotional health and safe connections with others. Blue Apple will supply materials and light refreshments.

On July 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. author Kate Bartley will present her workshop, “Breaking Free Together.” This session will speak to women who do it all — helpers, healers, caregivers, managers and ‘administrator’ on the home front.

“We’ll gently unravel the ‘Good Girl Traps’ — invisible patterns of over-giving, people-pleasing, guilt, perfectionism and self-neglect,” Bartley said.

Bartley, author of “The Good Girl Rx,” is a Licensed Physical Therapist, Life Coach and cancer survivor.

Blue Apple Books’ address is 14 Main St., Suites B and C.
