City of Madison hires special needs program coordinator

MADISON – The City of Madison Parks and Recreation Department has named Marisa Estrada as its new Special Needs Program Coordinator, bringing fresh passion and expertise to the city’s growing portfolio of inclusive and adaptive recreation programs.

Estrada will oversee the development and implementation of programs specifically designed for individuals with disabilities, ensuring each participant has access to supportive, engaging, and welcoming recreational experiences. She will also work closely with families, caregivers and community partners to build programs that foster confidence, joy and social connection for people of all abilities.

“My heart is in helping people feel seen and celebrated,” Estrada said. “When participants are supported and included, the confidence and happiness that comes from that is incredible. That’s what drives me.”

Estrada’s journey into adaptive recreation began in early childhood education. Her work as a preschool teacher ignited her commitment to supporting children of all abilities. She went on to serve as an early interventionist and inclusion consultant, roles in which she focused on helping families and children with disabilities access the resources and environments they needed to thrive.

That dedication to accessibility and inclusion is now fueling Madison’s adaptive recreation efforts, and Estrada is excited to expand programming and community engagement.
