Patriots down Grissom; Jets run over Huntsville

Sparkman overcomes struggles to win over Albertville

MADISON – Class 7A football includes 32 teams in the Alabama High School Athletic Association, and after four weeks of the 2025 only four of that number remain unbeaten.

Count Bob Jones among those latter few as it continued to slice through its schedule Friday night at Madison City Stadium.

Quarterback Gakoby Gill threw five touchdown passes to lead a 42-0 win over Grissom. He totaled 28 yards on 15-of-25 accuracy and didn’t throw an interception as Bob Jones improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in 7A, Region 4.

Grissom fell to 1-2, 0-2. Gill wasn’t the only star: Jaden Rice rushed 10 times for 123 yards and a touchdown; , Rhys Dorsey had six receptions for 109 yards and two TDs; BJ Carter had just two catches for 93 yards, both TDds.

Bob Jones travels for another region game this week at Florence (1-3, 0-2). The two played a chippy, emotional game last year in Madison won in overtime by the Falcons, 26-23.

The Patriots, who have outscored opponents 174-38, are creeping up on the Alabama Sportswriter Association Top 10 rankings. Last week, Bob Jones was in the 12th spot behind Baker and No. 10 Opelika.

James Clemens 31 Huntsville 14

In Huntsville, Matthew Evers went 12-of-20 for 238 yards with two touchdowns for the Jets at Joe Davis Stadium.

Evers’ TD throws went 77 yards to Alex Lively and 17 to Aaron Gonzalez. MJ Gideon had an 8-yard touchdown run.

Garder finished with six catches for 145 yards, Mason Rose scored on a 43yard interception return and Thai Lyles kicked a 27-yard for the Jets, which rebounded from a 54-7 to Bob Jones.

Defensively for the Jets, Jocq Dennis had 10 total tackles with seven solo. Christian Wyatt, Kaleb Pryor, Nathan Holmes and Karter Grace all had tackles for loss. Interceptions came from Mason Rose, Pror and Malik Hardy.

James Clemens (2-1, 1-1 Region 7) led 17-14 at halftime. They host Grisson on Friday.

Huntsville (3-1, 1-1) got two touchdown passes from Wyatt Smith.

Sparkman 45, Albertville 27

In Albertville, the Senators broke through with their first win of the season behind Braylon Lawson. He rushed 15 times for a career-high 196 yards with two touchdowns.

Quarterback Joshua Naylon scored on a 7-yard run and was 11-of-20 for 144 yards and three TDs for Sparkman (1-3, 1-1 Region 7), which hosts Huntsville this week.

Also for the Senators, Braylon Watson rushed 15 times for 196 yards and two TDs. Zayden Bodner had four receptions for 81 yards with two TDs, and J Coates caught a 26-yard TD pass.

Defensively, Blake Battle had 12 tackles with a hurry, Julian Sanchez had a tackle for loss, and Kirlando Ayers Jair Haynes both had interceptions.
