Micah Pettus will have his eyes on upcoming NFL Draft

MADISON – Micah Pettus is just hours away from joining his older brother, Dell, in the National Football League. The 91st annual NFL Draft will be held this week and the younger Pettus is looking to be a middle-round pick at offensive tackle while Dell is a defensive back playing for the New England Patriots the last two seasons.

After signing with the Ole Miss Rebels coming out of James Clemens High, Pettus played four seasons for the SEC school before transferring to Florida State for his final year of eligibility where he started 11 games and allowed zero sacks. Matter of fact, in his final two seasons as a college player, Pettus did not allow a sack and is hoping his overall talents will be enough to receive a higher round selection in the draft, scheduled to be held in the Steel City of Pittsburgh for the first time since 1948.

The 6-foot-7, 358-pound offensive right tackle, who can also move over to the guard position, enriched his draft prospectus while he played in the 2026 Hula Bowl in Deland, Fla., located near Orlando. Pettus was selected for the 80th annual All-Star Game, which annually features the best seniors in college football placed on two teams which stepped out onto the field of Spec Martin Memorial Stadium and went head-to-head, as Pettus’ Team Kai defeated Team Aina 38-21. The game, which was played in Hawaii until its move to Florida in 2019, featured head coaches brothers Jon and Jay Gruden, both former NFL coaches. Pettus’ team was coached by Jon Gruden who last coached in the NFL in 2021.

“I started every offensive play and was named MVP Tackle for my play in our winning effort,” said Pettus. “I was at the Hula Bowl for a week where we went through numerous skills workouts and many of the NFL teams’ representatives asked me for one-on-one interviews in speculation of being their pick in the draft. It was great to go up against other NFL-caliber talent as I feel like I was dominant against most of those I went up against.”

Pettus is hoping to join his older brother, Dell, in the NFL as the elder Pettus plays free safety for the Patriots where he has enjoyed his second season among the pro ranks including playing in Super Bowl LX where the Pats fell to the Seattle Seahawks 29-13. Dell played his high school football at nearby Sparkman High.

His imposing size and long arms (36-5/8-inch) create what is known among the NFL scouts as a “wide blocking surface” that cause opposing rushers more to deal with. He’s known to bury speed rushers and absorbs bull rushes with his enormous size. He’s been preparing for the draft with workouts at Sports Academy in Frisco, Texas, but is looking to host a draft party with his brother and parents, Glenn and Tamara Pettus, here locally as all will be awaiting NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell call Pettus’ name in the next big step of completing Pettus’ dream of playing in the National Football League.
