Bid on mystery luggage at Unclaimed Baggage’s Unclaimed Auction

Scottsboro – Mystery suitcases of lost luggage are up for grabs at Unclaimed Baggage’s second annual Unclaimed Auction.

Since 1970, Unclaimed Baggage has acquired unclaimed suitcases from airlines. Normally, Unclaimed Baggage staff unpacks the suitcases and organizes the contents by type on the store floor.

Unclaimed Auction started in 2025 to give the public a chance to experience what Unclaimed Baggage’s luggage processors experience every day: the surprise of opening lost luggage.

“Oftentimes, we’re asked, ‘Can we see behind the scenes? What’s it like in the operations facility? Tell me about that process.’ So, we started thinking last year, early last year, in 2025, how fun it could be for our guests to have the opportunity to bid on an unclaimed suitcase,” said Vice President of Retail and Company Culture Jennifer Kritner.

The auction took place twice in 2025 in July and again in September. This year, they’ve consolidated to one big day. This year’s auction will feature 20 mystery suitcases and specialty items, including sports memorabilia, heels worn by country music stars Ella Langley and Megan Moroney, and designer accessories. This year’s auction will also debut virtual bidding on the specialty items.

“Our brand is all about you never know what you’ll find and the thrill of the hunt and adventure shopping, and we thought creating this unclaimed auction event where you’re truly placing a bid on an authentic, unclaimed, unprocessed suitcase would just be really thrilling and exciting for everyone involved,” said Kritner.

While the auction is going on, the store will also be selling mega mystery bundles of unclaimed items. Eight of the boxes will contain a golden ticket that can be exchanged for a $100 Unclaimed Baggage gift card.

The Unclaimed Auction will take place Saturday, June 13 from 10am to 4pm. The store will operate on normal hours from 8am to 8pm.
