Para-Cycling Road World Championships seeking volunteers
The Para-Cycling Road World Championships is coming to Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park this September, and you could be part of it.
The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce and City of Huntsville are the local organizers for the event and are currently looking for more than 600 volunteers from the local community to support the event.
Volunteers contribute crucially to the success of the event in several different roles. Volunteers protect the racing course for rider safety, escort athletes for anti-doping testing, support parking and traffic flow teams, serve food to athletes and staff at the Athlete Village, help with hospitality and production setup, and more.
“Overall, we want Huntsville to come and watch the races as well. They are FREE, fun, and offer people the opportunity to learn about athletes with different abilities. The athletes LOVE Huntsville, too. Many competed here in 2023 and they are excited to return,” said Vice President of Image Development & Communications for the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber Claire Aiello.
Huntsville is only the second United States city to ever host the Para-Cycling Road World Championships. The Rocket City has previously hosted four other cycling events, including the 2023 Para-Cycling Road World Cup.
“Our community is up for this new challenge, and we can’t wait to have the athletes come back. We loved to watch them compete. Our city is proud and thankful for the opportunity to host them again,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle in 2023 when the Rocket City was selected for the Para-Cycling Road World Championships.
Team USA athletes for the World Championships were announced on Thursday, June 25 and include World Cup Overall Champions Samantha Bosco, Jenna Rollman, and Dennis Connors along with newcomers Jeremy Van Tress, Nicholas McCoy, Owen Cravens, William Seitz, Grant Simonds, Ryan Jastrab, Justin Mathers, and Broden Ala.
In total, over 600 athletes plus coaches, staff, and families will converge on North Alabama Labor Day weekend, September 4-7.
