Anderson earns Optimist honors as city’s top cop

Former Mayor Ann van Leeuwen pins a corsage on Officer Lamar Anderson’s wife, Janie, while Officer Anderson looks on.Officer Lamar Anderson was honored as Madison’s Officer of the Year this week at the Optimist International Respect for Law banquet at the Mayfair Church of Christ.
Officer Anderson was one of six officers recognized for excellence by the area’s Optimist clubs at this annual event.  Officer Anderson is a U. S. Navy veteran, was a cardio vascular technician and a member of the staff at the Madison County Jail before beginning his career with the Madison Police Department in 2005.  He is a 2006 graduate of the Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy.
Anderson is one of Madison’s Field Training Officers, a member of the Honor Guard Unit and has received several letters of recognition and commendation.  In 2009, his fellow officers chose him as the Employee of the Year, an award that recognized him for outstanding performance rendered in the provision of law enforcement and exemplifying superior initiative, tenacity, and professionalism.
Officer Anderson’s wife, Janie, is also dedicated to public service.  She is a teacher of autistic children at Providence School in Huntsville.  They have a son and daughter, Josiah, 5, and Cassidy, 4, and reside in Harvest.
Anderson and his wife were driven to the presentation and dinner with Madison Police Chief Larry Muncey and his son, Jake, in a limousine compliments of A Touch of Class Limousine. Service.
