Richard Cates; July 26, 2010

Richard H. Cates, 70, of Madison passed away Monday, July 26.

Mr. Cates had 36 years in the service with the Army, Air Force and civil service. He earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. He was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sue Cates; sons, Harold McEwen of Madison and Walker McEwen and wife Alba of Fayetteville, Tenn.; daughters, Malinda Cates Tuttle and husband Aaron of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Malissa Cates Galliher and husband Robert of Birmingham; grandchildren, Lindsey McEwen of Huntsville, Morgan McEwen of Madison, Jon McEwen and Jordan McEwen, both of Fayetteville, and Riley Tuttle of Spring Hill, Tenn.; and great-granddaughter, Ella Grace McEwen.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Whitesburg Baptist Church South Campus with Dr. Jimmy Jackson officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Sears Chapel Cemetery in Rockford with the Rev. Danny Bynum officiating.
