Jamie S. Coleman Coates, 71, of Madison passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 8

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her parents, James “Jim” and Lavonia Coleman; and one granddaughter, Kali Burgess. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Lane and Bonnie Coates of Madison, Sandy and Barry McClure of Monrovia, Lisa and Jeff Burgess of Harvest and Elisabeth and Brent Smith of Toney; nine grandchildren, Andrew Coates and his wife Erica, Amanda Coates, Austin Smith, Danielle McClure, Morgan Burgess, Amberly Smith, Lindsey McClure, Stefanie McClure and Jenna Burgess; one great-grandchild, Alexander Coates; brother, Ralph Coleman and his wife Shirley of Oxford, Miss.; sister, Juanice Henderson of Pontotoc, Miss; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Coates was born in Pontotoc County, Miss. She and her husband of 55 years moved to Madison in 1961, where they raised their four children. Mrs. Coates was a devoted wife, homemaker and selfless mother. She was a Sunday school teacher and loved hosting young and old for delicious meals in her home. She enjoyed spending time with her family and longtime friends.

Visitation was from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at Madison Church of Christ followed by a memorial service. Burial was at Huntsville Memory Gardens.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the dedicated and caring staff and friends of The Terrace in Priceville, Amedisys Hospice Services and Visiting Angels.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Jamie may be made to Agape of North Alabama, P.O. Box 3887, Huntsville, AL 35810 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
