Dickens coming to Madison

Dickens has worked as an actor, director and producer for many years. He created his first one-man show, a theatrical performance of A Christmas Carol, in 1993.

Charles Dickens’s great-great grandson Gerald Dickens is coming to Madison and will perform scenes and characters from A Christmas Carol.

Dickens will perform “A Night With Gerald Dickens,”  at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11 at First Baptist Church.

The play is a one-man show, in which Dickens will play 26 characters from the classic Christmas novella.

The performance is the biggest fundraiser for the Madison Public Library.

“We’ve had a good reception thus far and we anticipate a sell out performance, “ said Mandy Pinyan, youth services librarian. “He was well received the first time he came and we decided to have him back.”

After the performance,  he’ll autograph merchandise.

Money raised will benefit  the  library children’s department.

Pinyan said the library usually holds the Breakfast with Santa fundraiser at Applebee’s, but decided to try something new this year. once year.

She said tickets are selling fast for the 300-seat auditorium. Tickets are only available at the Madison Public Library located on off Hughes Road at 130 Plaza Blvd. The number to the MPL is (256) 461-0046. TIckets are $10 for children and $15 for adults.

“This is a fundraiser, but also something fun for families to do,” Pinyan said. “We’re very excited about it.”
