BY Janet McGuigan / SPECIAL TO THE RECORD

Despite losing to Grissom 2-1 on Thursday, April 21, the Bob Jones Lady Patriots advanced to the first round of state playoffs with a second place finish in Class 6A, Section 8.

Jessica Hoover scored first in the match for Bob Jones with a follow up shot within the six.

“Our goal this season has been to make it to the finals,” Hoover said. “We are a strong, cohesive team and are anxious to start playoff games next week.”

The Lady Tigers tied it up with a power shot from outside the 18 by Courtney Stockbridge that put the game into overtime.

Grissom added a goal with a head shot two minutes into overtime.  Bob Jones finished its regular season at 15-6, 11-3 in Class 6A, section 8.

“Even though we lost tonight, we are ready for the playoffs and feel we will go far,” said Senior Captain Tori Davis.

The girls’ win against Sparkman High School Saturday, April 16 secured their chance in the playoffs.

The girls beat Buckhorn High School Monday, April 18, with seven players scoring in less than 40 minutes of regulation time.

In a fast-paced defensive battle at Huntsville High School Wednesday April 20, the Lady Patriots earned their number two spot in class 6A, section 8 soccer.  Despite the 2-1 loss to the Lady Panthers that night, Bob Jones will play Clay-Chalkville in the first round of playoffs beginning April 29.
